1. What is HydroTan?

HydroTan is a free standing fully automated UV-free spray tan booth that provides the client with an all over smooth, natural glowing tan - in just seconds. The HydroTan booth has been designed to provide clients with an efficient service in a private and comfortable environment.

HydroTan does not rely upon the use of hand-held spray guns that inevitably dispense solution all over the floor and walls of the room, creating an unhygienic, slippery, unsafe environment for both the gun operator and the client. 2. 3 in 1?

HydroTan is available as a combination full body treatment system incorporating aromasteam, shower and spray tan. HydroTan’s patent-protected, innovative steam & shower features, enable clients to fully prepare their skin immediately prior to receiving an all over tan. Steam, exfoliating and showering will ultimately prepare the skin for the best tanning results. Clients experiencing the 3 in 1 treatment will benefit from the pampering and relaxing indulgence – this in turn can benefit you by generating additional revenue for your business. Mud’s, seaweeds and moisturizing treatments may also add to your service offerings, all by the simple yet innovative addition of the steam and shower system.

3. How does it work?

HydroTan works by the rapid and precise application of a specially formulated DHA (dihydroxyacetone) tanning solution onto the skin. A golden, glowing tan is immediate and continues to develop over the coming hours as the solution reacts with the skin to achieve the ultimate rich, healthy glow. The HydroTan solution is applied onto the skin within 8 seconds through the strategically located, high-atomising spray jets within the booth. The solution mist is then circulated around the client using HydroTan’s high volume extraction/filtration system to ensure full body coverage. Audio voice prompts guide the client through every step of the entire process to ensure the very best results in a comfortable environment.

5. Is the HydroTan affordable?

The HydroTan UV-free spray tan system is the most affordable unit available today and can be leased for around $25.00 per day over a 60 month period. In most cases this means that only between 1-2 UV-Free spray tan sessions sold per day is all it takes to cover all associated expenses - including the solution, consumables, labour and lease payments. HydroTan is a working investment for you business and with the right efforts applied will generate glowing results for many aspects of your business.

6. How much area does HydroTan require?

Typically a room 3 metres x 2.5 metres is sufficient. The HydroTan equipment powerpack allows flexibility during installation and therefore a smaller area may be possible.

7. Is HydroTan safe?

The HydroTan solution is formulated using the finest ingredients available and is listed with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). The active ingredient in the HydroTan solution is dihydroxyacetone (DHA) - a sugar extract that reacts naturally with skin to facilitate a healthy, glowing tan appearance. DHA has been used for many years in cosmetics and is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is deemed safe for use on the skin. Protectives such as nose clips, eye protection and barrier cream are available to avoid inhalation or exposure to mucus membranes. The HydroTan booth delivers The Quickest application of all spray on tans - HydroTan has developed an impressive 8 second application process that includes a rapid air extraction feature so that the minimum of time is spent in the booth.

8. How much HydroTan solution is used ?

Each 8 second spray session uses approximately 50ml of solution. The standard two-coat spray process uses approximately 100ml of solution. The single 8 second spray may be used to simply top-up a HydroTan during the first 3-4 days following a full two-coat session - whereby the client will already be golden and wishes to maintain, or go darker in colour.

9. Will I turn orange or blotchy?

No. The HydroTan process delivers a natural golden glowing tan.

HydroTan makes use of a new generation of natural looking tanning pigments that mimic natural skin tones with 100% accuracy- avoiding undesirable orange undertones. Most other spray-on and hand applying tanning solutions incorporate very high levels of bronzer agents to provide an instant dark colour impact on the skin - whereas the HydroTan solution relies predominantly on the DHA reaction process to provide the best glowing results that develop over the following hours. It is the bronzer that is responsible for the high level of dark staining rub-off onto clothing, and contributes to the appearance of orange blotchy skin. Using inadequate application equipment and process will also result in poor, un-even coverage of the body, causing discolouration. The result of thousands of hours of research and development have enabled HydroTan to develop an automated booth that applies the tanning solution in a simplistic, repeatable and consistent manner, that minimizes the risk of poor results due to human error. HydroTan’s approach to UV-free tanning is an automated one that minimises the high risk of human error during the application process, and to utilize DHA as the predominant ingredient that develops a natural golden glowing tan over the coming hours - as opposed to bronzer reliant tanners that deliver immediate high impact results.

10. Why should I choose HydroTan?

HydroTan is the most refined and technologically advanced UV-free spray tanning process available. All control systems and pre & post procedures have been developed as part of the process for repeatable easy operation by both operator and client.

An optional ‘front-desk’ control system provides master control over the operation of the HydroTan system. System operation can be disabled to prevent unauthorised use.

HydroTan’s pre-programmed two-coat spray process provides the most even, overall tan. Operator program control system allows the selection of varying levels of tan glow.

Unlike other UV-free tanning booths, the HydroTan application process does not rely upon clients having to learn and remember complicated positioning and maneuvering routines that they often forget during the application process - some routines lasting as long as 60 seconds ! HydroTan does not rely upon operators having to learn to consistently apply tanning solution over 30 minute periods.

HydroTan has a long list of innovative features that can transform a UV-free spray tan application into a pampering full body treatment experience, simply by adding the optional extras that enable aromasteam and showering treatments. HydroTan’s unique mist extraction / filtration system circulates fine tanning mist evenly over the entire body before rapidly replacing the mist with filtered air - providing a comfortable environment for the client - and to confine over-spray solution within the booth - as opposed to being dispensed throughout the room and creating an unhygienic, unsafe environment for both operator and client. HydroTan’s automated fresh water rinse down of the booth ensures a safe, clean hygienic condition.

11. Does the HydroTan booth require special plumbing and electrics?

HydroTan is available as a UV-free spray tanning booth only (level 1) - or with the patent protected optional Aromasteam & showering system incorporated (level 3).

Level 1 – Booth requires no special plumbing or electrical services.

Plumbing: The water tank on-board the HydroTan system holds approximately 40 litres of water that is used to supply the automatic wash down system incorporated in the booth. This tank of water will require filling with cold water using a bucket or hose approximately twice a week in a busy working environment. The booth has a sump tank that stores 80 litres of water and will require emptying once a week in a busy working environment. A simple hose pipe connected to a sump pump can be directed to a basin drain or bucket when emptying. – draining will take 2 – 3 minutes.

Electrical: A standard electrical general purpose outlet 10 Amp, 220 / 240 Volt protected via an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) is all that is required

Level 3 -

Plumbing: A standard 12mm (1/2 inch) hot & cold water supply lines and a standard 40mm (1 ½ inch) drain line is required. A standard hot water storage service of approximately 250 – 350 litres, or an instantaneous hot water heater delivering about 10 litres per minute at 55 Celsius is required.
Electrical: A standard electrical general purpose outlet 10 Amp, 220 / 240 Volt protected via an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) is all that is required.

Note: level 3 requires no manual filling or emptying of water.

12. Is the HydroTan booth easy to maintain and operate?

Operators are made to feel comfortable with the easy operation and low maintenance requirements due to a number of features that are included as standard. The electronic control system monitors the status of the system throughout its operation and the LCD display provides diagnostic information to the operator such as ‘Tanning Solution Level Low’ and ‘Rinse Water Tank Needs Filling’. In addition, the automatic wash down cycle, and hand held shower enable minimal input from the operator to maintain hygienic conditions. All surfaces are smooth and the main structure is produced from sanitary grade polymers and stainless steel. Operator training and support is provided.

13. How long does it take for a full HydroTan session?

Even though the client is in the booth for two individual 8 second spray sessions additional time is taken in the pre & post activity. A regular client who understands and has experienced the process will be in the room for approximately 6-7 minutes and a further 1 -2 minutes is required for general clean-up and room preparation by a staff member.

If a level 3 HydroTan booth is utilized and a full pampering body treatment is being experienced by the client, then a session will last from between 20–30 minutes –depending on services offered. A full pampering body treatment incorporates steam, self exfoliation, aromatherapy and showering before exiting the booth, including drying off and relaxing for 5 - 10 minutes. Following the relaxation period that may have also included a hand & foot massage then the client re-enters the booth for the UV-free spray tanning experience.

14. How will HydroTan benefit my business?

UV-free tanning or ‘fake tanning’ as it is often referred to is without doubt growing in popularity at an incredible rate throughout the Australian, North American and European regions. People are becoming aware and delighted at the great effect and feeling that having a golden glow tan delivers. They feel more confident, sexy and attractive and there general wellbeing is heightened. UV-free tanning is now out in the open - un-like years ago and people are not embarrassed to confess that their tan is fake. They now get a sense of pride that they take the safer and more convenient option and avoid UV rays to look, and feel great

As a business operator, e.g. Beauty salon, Spa, Health & fitness club, Hotel, Swimming pool, Café, Hair dressing etc. - you should be benefiting from the UV-free tanning popularity. You are well positioned to offer a UV-Free tanning system and generate a healthy income from this additional service. The HydroTan UV-free tanning system includes pre-post tanning procedure, rapid automated application in a private, safe and hygienic controlled environment. Being a private unobtrusive experience that generates such a positive impact to the individual it will be an attractive alternative to many sorts of new clientele. The labour investment to operate a HydroTan system is low and the human error rate results in providing such a service is significantly reduced. Typically it will take only 1 to 2 HydroTan UV-free spray tanning treatment sales per day to cover operating expenses, including a full lease payment program.

In addition to the revenue generated directly from the HydroTan UV-free spray tanning treatment, a client may be open to additional products and services – moisturizers, creams, tan touch-ups, and indeed their next appointment may include a full body treatment incorporating exfoliants, aromatherapy, steam and showering experience topped off with the UV-free tan - all in the HydroTan booth - that’s, of course, if you have these options added to your HydroTan booth! Once your client experience a 20 - 30 minute HydroTan body treatment, no other UV free tanning system will compare. HydroTan may also add benefit to your business by simply providing an effective Steam & Shower system that enables you to offer clients additional wet services without operating the UV spray-tan function - but next time, with a little encouragement, they may want to glow!

15. What should I wear in the booth?

One of the many benefits of the HydroTan booth, when compared to other tanning methods, is that it offers the client a complete private, uninhibited environment. Therefore many users choose to fully disrobe for the perfect, seamless tan. However, HydroTan offers a full range of products such as disposable booties, shower caps, boxer shorts for men and briefs for women - or indeed swimwear or underwear can be worn, however, don’t forget although the solution is water-soluble, they may be discoloured slightly after the spray tan application.

16. How should I prepare for the HydroTan?

HydroTan understand that UV-free spray tanning is an inexact science. We all have different skin types and various skin textures on different parts of our body, and as such, results may vary. The dryer skin in the areas of our elbows and knees, may absorb the tanning solution at a greater rate than in the more moisturized areas. In order to achieve the finest results that HydroTan can deliver, we recommend that clients exfoliate in the shower with a non-oily exfoliant each day, 2-3 days prior, and moisturise their body after the tanning treatment. On the day of the tan it is ideal to shower before the appointment to ensure the skin is free from products such as moisturisers, perfumes, deodorants and make up. The better the condition of your skin, the more evenly the tan will be absorbed by the body, and the better the results.

17. What should I do after the HydroTan?

Put on loose dark clothing and loose footwear such as thongs. Do not shower or allow water to splash onto your tan and avoid perspiration-producing activity - such as exercise - for approximately 8 hours. Do not apply perfume, moisturiser or deodorants for approximately 8 hours. Your HydroTan will develop into a darker golden glow over the following 8 hours and will last from 5 to 7 days. To prolong the tan and achieve best results do not exfoliate during the 5-7 days. Apply moisturiser daily, and use a gentle body wash - pat skin dry after showering as opposed to rubbing.

18. What happens if I breathe, or get the solution in my eyes?

Un-like other booths and spray processes, HydroTan have developed a process that requires minimal time spent inside the booth - only 8 seconds of spray time. Although DHA has FDA approval for use on the skin, HydroTan supply and recommend the use of eye protection and a filtered mouthpiece for use during the 8 second spray process. Should clients choose not to use these, we recommend that users hold their breath and close their eyes for the duration of the 8 second misting process. The solution is harmless to hair and will simply wash out during next showering after at least 8 hours. A shower cap may be worn during the spray process.

19. Will the HydroTan prevent me from natural tanning?

The HydroTan solution does not offer any UV protection. Following a HydroTan spray session a client may still tan naturally in the sun, therefore, a sunscreen or sunblock must be applied.

20. What about allergic reactions?

If the client has hypersensitive skin or is allergic to fake tanning solutions / DHA or other similar skin applying products then it is recommended that they proceed with caution. If in doubt it is wise to seek medical advice before proceeding with the HydroTan process. There appears to be very few reports of reactions with DHA fake tanning solutions However, play it safe.

21. Should I use HydroTan if I am pregnant?

We do not recommend that pregnant or possibly pregnant women use HydroTan. There appears to be no formal studies carried out on the spraying of DHA and the exposure to pregnant women and nor are we aware of any associated problems. play it safe and consult a medical doctor before using HydroTan.

22. Will HydroTan stain my clothes?

As with any colored cosmetic, HydroTan has the potential of transferring onto clothing mainly after the initial application. However this has not proven to be a problem. Wearing loose dark clothing immediately after application is the answer. Unlike many other spray booth applications the HydroTan process does not drench the skin with solution nor does the HydroTan solution contain high levels of bronzer that can mark clothing easily. In most cases HydroTan washes out of clothing easily during normal wash.
