Suzi – Hydrotherapy for the headHigh tech, high touch Frequently Asked Questions
Suzi is an innovative product from HydroCo, a world leader in the design and manufacturer of hydrotherapy experience centers servicing the Spa, Wellness, fitness, medical and sport industries in over 40 countries. HydroCo have showrooms in Melbourne Australia and Los Angeles USA and distributors throughout Asia and Europe. Suzi is an amazing, automated hydrotherapy system designed specifically to provide clients with sensational head and scalp water massaging thermal experiences. To achieve this, Suzi utilizes high pressure water sprays & jets, steam, aromatherapy, hydrocolor lighting, thermal contrasting, shampoo and hair conditioning solutions - as well as the helping human touch. Suzi comes complete with a motorized lift & recline chair. After the client has been seated, the chair is reclined until the back of the client’s neck is comfortably located onto the soft neck cushion. Once the client’s hair has been guided into Suzi’s bowl, the water temperature is sampled and the lid is then lowered and sealed onto the forehead. One of Suzi’s automatic treatment programs is then activated at the touch of a button. Moving high-pressure spray bars scan the head, and strategically located water jets blast temperature-controlled water thoroughly over, and around the head & scalp. Varying levels of shampoo and hair conditioning products may be introduced into the program, again, all at the touch of a button. When the program is completed the lid is raised and the client is sat up and the hair is then toweled off. 3. Is Suzi just a computerized hair washing machine? Absolutely not ! When people see Suzi for the first time their reaction is ‘wow , a hair washing machine’. This is because people relate anything that the head enters into and have water sprayed onto it, must be something to do with washing hair - after all, what else can it be for? Once they experience Suzi, only then are they amazed at the concept, and that washing hair is only just a part of it. Suzi is indeed a computerized machine that incorporates moving spray bars and strategically located water jets - these are her equivalent to our hands and fingers. It is a fact that the majority of people that have experienced Suzi asks the operator if they actually used their hands during the program operation - that’s how sensational the effect is! If you think of Suzi as a head & scalp massaging machine that uses all the benefits and sensations that only water can produce, then you begin to see Suzi a little differently. Having your head, scalp and neck massaged using high pressurized water sprays & jets, combined with varying water temperatures – it’s certainly more than just washing hair. Washing hair happens to be just one of the things Suzi does incredibly well. 4. Isn’t Suzi too high-tech and not enough hands-on? No, this is a big misconception. Sure, Suzi is high-tech automation at it’s best, and by being so, she can do things that human hands simply can not – and vice-versa - but combine both and you have an incredible result – high tech , high touch ! With Suzi, you can have as much, or as little ‘hands on’ as you wish. At anytime during a program, Suzi’s operation can be paused to enable the lid to be raised and allow complete access to the client’s head and neck. This is when treatment packs etc.. can be hand-massaged in. 5. What treatments can Suzi offer my clients? Suzi is high-tech high-touch, and the most sought after, enjoyable Suzi treatment is the ‘Spa Pack’ treatment. The ‘Spa Pack’ treatment has been developed by HydroCo to show off all of Suzi’s best attributes and to totally relax and pamper the client in a way that they would never have expected possible. During the entire 20 minute ‘Spa-Pack’ treatment, the client’s eyes are covered with a compress and a blanket covers their entire body, creating a comfortable, private and relaxed environment. The ‘Spa Pack’ program is activated following a brief scalp massage by the operator. The spray bars and water jets move around the clients head and a shampoo program is completed. Following the water massage and shampoo, Suzi’s program pauses and the aromasteam is activated. During the aromasteam session the operator hand massages a tingling, peppermint treatment pack onto the scalp and the clients is left to relax whilst sensing and listening to the sound of the fine hot mist as it is being sprayed around their head. Whilst the client is relaxing during the 8 – 10 minute aromasteam treatment, the operator proceeds to massage the client’s hands, arms, shoulders, neck and lower legs. The rinse cycle is then activated and water temperature is regulated several times from hot to cool. The cycling of the hot and cool water over a scalp that has been sensitized by peppermint treatment and aromastaem, cannot be explained ! The client is then sat up, toweled off using a massaging technique, and then slowly re-introduced to the real world. 6. Do clients need to disrobe for the ‘Spa Pack’ treatment? No, this is a major benefit of Suzi ! Only shirt sleeves and collars are rolled back and this important factor enables Suzi to be located in open communal areas - as opposed to taking up treatment room space. Not having to disrobe makes Suzi convenient and unobtrusive – attracting more clients. When a client is laid back into Suzi, and an eye compress is applied, the client could be anywhere, as all they hear is the sound of water. There could be dozens of people walking by, they could even be talking loudly - and the client will be oblivious to all such activity. 7. Does Suzi take up lots of room? Suzi can be located in an open communal area without any detriment or compromise to the standard of the treatment, and the clients privacy. Alternatively, Suzi can be located in her own room to create a more controlled, luxurious ambience - if preferred. Yes, without doubt. Suzi can be leased for around USD14.00 per day. The sale of 1 (one) Suzi Spa-Pack treatment per day will, in most cases, cover all daily operating expenses associated with Suzi - including consumables, labor and lease payments. In most cases it only takes around 2 treatments per day at a sale value of approximately $40.00 per ‘Spa Pack’ treatment to cover the full purchase value of Suzi within a 12 month operating period. 9. Do operators of Suzi require any special qualifications? No, Suzi has been designed to be operated by virtually anyone who has the desire to operate her. An appropriate person that understands the importance of servicing the public and how to create a pampering, indulgent experience is all that is required. The massaging of the scalp, neck, hands, shoulders and lower legs as carried out during the Suzi ‘Spa Pack’ is, in most countries, permissible and does not require special licensing - however, it is advisable to check with local governing / licensing authorities first. An operator can be well trained on how to operate and provide great treatments with Suzi - usually within 5 – 6 hours. 10. What type of business should install Suzi? Spa, wellness, medical, beauty, hair salon etc…. Suzi can benefit all types of business’s, even non-beauty related . Suzi belongs anywhere that people can be seated for 20 minutes and experience an extraordinary treatment that will calm, de-stress and relax them and leave them with an incredible sense of wellbeing. Hair salons can now offer pampering Spa treatments conveniently with the labor source they already have. Suzi can be a pampering zone treatment that clients can enjoy whilst they have treatment packs in their hair. They can lay back in Suzi listening and sensing the aromasteam feature – beats a plastic bag over the head sitting under a hair dryer ! Spa’s can now offer a hair-cleansing treatment following a facial. Clients no longer leave the Spa with oily hair – feeling unclean ! Suzi is also very advantageous working in with body wraps / masks. When having such treatments the body perspires and hair often becomes sweaty and oily, and the desire to jump in a shower, shampoo up, lather and rinse off is just far too tempting. People seem to forget that mud’s, seaweeds and many other body products have been designed to remain on the skin for up to 8 hours following application, and by using shampoo’s and soaps immediately following these applications is simply detrimental to the process, and will compromise the results. Imagine rinsing mud’s, seaweeds etc.,from the body using only fresh water, and relying upon Suzi to shampoo the hair clean. Shampoo application is confined to the head, the clients feel clean and resist the desire to immediately soap and shower off! 11. Can Suzi relieve headaches? Although no official research has been carried out, and HydroCo can make no official claim in regards to the Suzi and her ability to relieve headaches – HydroCo staff members have witnessed, and also been advised by a number of individuals that a Suzi treatment resulted in headache pain relief. It is believed that the stimulation generated by the high pressure spray bars and jets, combined with water temperature variations, stimulate the scalp and increases blood flow - and this,in-turn, assists in providing relief. 12. Does Suzi use lots of water? No. Typically Suzi uses approximately 35 litres ( 7.5 gallons ) of water per a 3 minute automated program. This equates to a typical hair wash basin shower running for 3 – 4 minutes during your typical shampoo & conditioning. The aromasteam session during Suzi ‘Spa Pack’ treatment, uses approximately one half of a litre (0.5) ( 1/8th of a gallon ) per minute. This very low water consumption feature allows Suzi treatments to extend up to 20 - 30 minutes. Suzi’s programmes are automated and therefore use the same amount of water every time. This important feature protects against possible high water usage as a result of inconsistent human operation,eg., where taps (faucets) can be left running for extended periods of time. 13. Does Suzi require special electrical & plumbing services? No, a standard electrical supply available in all buildings is all that is required – North America: 110 - 120 Volt, 20 Amp, 60Hz – dedicated line protected by GFCI Australia / Europe: 200 - 240 Volt, 10Amp, 50/60Hz – dedicated line protected by ELCB. Plumbing: 12mm (1/2 inch) hot & cold water supply lines and a 40mm (1 ½ inch drain line). 14. Can Suzi assist in the rinsing of perm solutions / chemicals from hair? Yes, Suzi has a number of pre-set programs that cater for different services. These include:- shampoo only, shampoo & condition, condition only and water rinse only. Suzi can thoroughly, and impressively shampoo & condition hair in approximately 3 minutes. Rinse programs for color and perm solutions / ‘relaxers’ can be programmed to run from 3 – 10 minutes as required. 15. Can Suzi accommodate long, thick or fine hair? Yes, Suzi can accommodate long, short, thick and fine hair. Suzi even handles heavy dreadlocks. In fact, over 1,000 treatments in the 8 international trade shows that HydroCo attended and demonstrated in - we have not come across any hair condition that Suzi can not accommodate. Even treatments on bald heads are incredibly sensational, and opens up new treatment opportunities. 16. Can any brand of shampoo and conditioner be used with Suzi? Yes. Good quality liquid products are to be used. 17. Does Suzi use lots of product? No. You will be amazed how many treatments you get from a bottle of product controlled by Suzi, when compared to hand washing. It is estimated that product lasts up to 3 times longer with Suzi. Suzi dispenses the shampoo & conditioner automatically, and consistently, every single time. The product is introduced into the water immediately prior to it exiting the spray bars. The spray bars then thoroughly, and evenly, dispense the product (mixed into the water) over the head, and therefore, less product is required - without compromising the results. Ther are two moving spray bars in the Suzi bowl. These bars do not rotate 360 degrees - they move in a ‘raise and lowering’ action. The hair is actually lifted by the water exiting the bottom spray bar, and is then pushed down by the top spray bar. Suzi incorporates automatic sensing and shut-down mechanisms for ultimate user and operator safety. No evidence or reports have been made in regards to ‘hair-pulling’. 19. Does Suzi require high maintenance? No. The only ‘day to day’ maintenance, is to keep all the surfaces of Suzi clean & hygienic between clients. Shampoo & conditioner levels will require monitoring on a weekly basis. This is done at a simple glance. The face-seal that is attached to the lid will require replacing every 50 – 60 clients. This is a simple 2 minute procedure. Shampoo & conditioner pump elements (rubber tubes) may require replacement annually. It is a straight forward 10minute procedure, and can be carried out by a general handy-man. 20. How did Suzi get her name? During the 2 year development of Suzi, it soon became evident that such a product could offer so much pleasure. We saw the satisfaction and pride that the operators of Suzi had when clients reported back how fantastic the treatment was. We thought that such a product deserved a personality, and by giving it a persons name we believed it would gain this. The humourous reaction from people when they hear her name for the first time is clearly evident, and, in an interesting and positive way, we believe that it encourages people to try this innovative high-tech piece of equipment with some relaxed anticipation and curiosity - after all, this is our objective – to get people to try Suzi, because we know once they have, they will understand and appreciate the incredible experience. .
